The research had an inductive, interpretative and descriptive character. A basic descriptive qualitative methodology was used due to its purpose, the techniques used and what it provides. The research participants are public servants of the central-west regional unit of a Federal Autarchy, who have more than eight years of public service and who underwent some training between the years 2018 and 2022. Ten interviews were carried out with a semi-structured script, seeking thus a greater degree of deepening on the real meanings of the phenomenon – support to the transfer of competences. After analyzing the data, using the content analysis technique, it was possible to identify and describe the aspects that facilitate (support from management, support from colleagues, performance and motivation, time, material resources and available information) and those that restrict (lack of support from management, lack of support from colleagues, resistance to change, number of employees and institutional bureaucracy) support for the transfer of skills. The main contributions of this study consisted of identifying aspects that are related to supporting the transfer of skills acquired in training and relationships with the impact of training at work within a public institution.
