Dissertação (Mestrado)- Programa de Pós-Graduação em Administração, Centro Universitário Alves Faria, 2023https://repositorio.unialfa.com.br/handle/123456789/47The aim of this work is to collect information that allows the understanding of the models adopted by supplementary health in Brazil and to show its differentials through its management model. Supplementary medicine has been occupying an increasingly extensive space in the Brazilian health system. In the recent history of Supplementary Medicine in Brazil, several expansions have been made. Some successfully and some not. The positive result was that there was a consolidation of the competitive position of those who directed part of their demands for services from their beneficiaries to their own resources. The supplementary health market presents specificities, expressed by the contractual relations established between its agents: patient, operator and provider. The objective of this work was to raise the main motivations and benefits of the verticalization process in supplementary health in Brazil. Seeking to verify among health insurance companies which were the main motivators of the verticalization process and which relative advantages were effectively verified with this process, this work presented the results obtained with an exploratory study. The benefits obtained by the health operator in verticalization processes included the improvement in the control of production costs and the guarantee or improvement of the quality of the services provided, followed by the increase in economies of scale. If, on the one hand, these results confirm those obtained in studies carried out in North America with regard to cost reduction and economies of scale, on the other hand, they bring to light the question of the quality of the services provided. The study confirms the positive relationship between vertical integration and performance, demonstrating that the phenomenon of vertical integration mentioned in the literature has been beneficial for health insurance companies. The results indicate that the existence of incentives for users to use the health insurance company's own services, the existence of specialty clinics, outpatient clinics and diagnostic centers are the main determinants of performance, considering that the model only explains 20.2% of performance.ptSaúde suplementarCompetênciasVerticalizaçãoVerticalização em medicina suplementar: um estudo em uma grande operadora de saúde
