Dissertação (Mestrado Profissional em Desenvolvimento Regional), UNIALFA, Goiânia, 2024http://repositorio.unialfa.com.br/handle/123456789/413This dissertation with the title “The importance of Public Policies for the appreciation of domestic work: a study on the achievements and challenges of Goiânia-GO” within the line of research Public Policies, Productive Arrangements (Clusters), Territory and Regional Development, seeks to understand how discrimination against domestic workers occurs and whether their socioeconomic conditions, due to low wages, constitute an obstacle to improve their living conditions and to achieving their plans as individuals within a society with its inequalities. Thus, its general objective is to conduct an analysis of the socioeconomic conditions of domestic workers in Goiânia-GO. The specific objectives were to demonstrate the evolution of domestic work in Brazil within the historical process, analyze the importance of labor legislation for domestic workers and their rights and, finally, demonstrate the real situation of domestic workers regarding discrimination and other particularities. It is noteworthy that domestic work, from Colonial Brazil to the present day, is considered a female task, primarily carried out by black women with low levels of education. In Brazil, domestic work has always been and continues to be a low-paying and undervalued profession by society. It is emphasized that from Colonial Brazil, there was no legal definition of domestic workers. Brazilian legislation, in the historical context, discriminated against these workers compared to other professional categories. This fact greatly contributed to the lack of recognition of domestic workers´ rights, leading them to be subjected to exploitation by employers. This situation only began to improve with the 1988 new Constitution and the Amendment 72 (BRASIL, 2013), which ensured equality of labor rights between domestic workers and other urban and rural workers. In this work, the methodology used included understanding laws, bibliographic review of authors, including Suchanek (2012), Freyre (2006), Costa (2019) and Saffiotti (1978), and quantitative research, with the application of questionnaires for data production and for proper analysis. As a result, it was noticed that domestic workers in Goiânia-GO are mostly from the capital itself and have a basic education level. The majority earn minimum wage, and most say they have no leisure activities, and in the future they do not intend to continue working as domestic workers. In addition, they have already suffered some form of violence. All aspire to a better life for their children and are not satisfied with domestic work, as they feel undervalued, discriminated against and disrespected.ptTrabalho domésticoDesvalorizaçãoPolíticas públicasA importância das políticas públicas para valorização do trabalho doméstico: um estudo sobre as conquistas e desafios em Goiânia-GO
