It is based on the understanding that Art education goes beyond the learning of artistic techniques and procedures and contributes to human development by fostering experiences related to sensitivity, creativity, expression, interpretation, and critical understanding of reality. The research analyzes the theoretical and conceptual foundations of art education and aesthetic education, relating them to culture, human development, and a conception of regional development that is not restricted to economic growth but also encompasses social, cultural, and educational dimensions. It also examines the trajectory of Art education in Brazil and its inclusion in educational and curriculum policies, with emphasis on the BNCC guidelines and debates concerning curriculum flexibility, citizenship education, and the conditions for implementing Art education in public schools. Regarding the relationships among Art, culture, and territory, the study discusses the contributions of art education to the recognition of identities, memories, cultural heritage, and regional cultural manifestations, highlighting possibilities for strengthening connections between schools and communities. The analysis demonstrates that Art can broaden access to cultural, aesthetic, and expressive experiences and foster citizenship education, social participation, and appreciation of the cultural potential of territories, although challenges related to teacher education, infrastructure, pedagogical resources, and the continuity of initiatives remain. It is concluded that art education can contribute to regional development by articulating artistic knowledge, aesthetic experience, culture, and social participation, provided that pedagogical and institutional conditions are ensured for its effective implementation in public schoolsptArte-educaçãoEducação estéticaEscola públicaBNCCArte-educação na escola pública: contribuições da BNCC para o desenvolvimento regional
