The general objective of the research is to analyze the importance of education in the prison environment as a way to promote the social reintegration of inmates and regional development. The specific objectives of the work are: To analyze the impact of prison education on the social reintegration of inmates; to investigate the role of prison education in regional development; to identify the main barriers and challenges faced in the implementation of prison education. The theoretical apparatus of the work had the participation of the following authors: Nucci (2012); (Távora and Alencar (2016); Bonifácio (2022); Freitas (2013); Julião (2016). The methodology used was qualitative research based on documentary research, as established by Gil (2022). The selection criteria for this work were based on works developed in the CAPES theses and dissertations database, in the period between 2000 and 2014.
