For decades the Deaf have been seeking recognition in the social environment, seeking at least quality of life, driven by their insertion in the job market. In order for this process to happen, in fact, it is necessary to include the Deaf in the context of socioeconomic development, in the country, in Imperatriz, Maranhão. In this perspective, this study aims to investigate the insertion of the Deaf in the labor market in the municipality of Imperatriz-Maranhão, Brazil. The methodology for the construction of this research is qualitative, exploratory and of a descriptive nature, supported by bibliographical research and field research. The authors were: Mazzotta (2001), Skliar (1999, 2010), Guarinello (2007), Honora and Frizanco (2009), Pereira (2011), and Quadros (2004). On the insertion of the Deaf in the labor market and inclusion policies, the authors: Albuquerque (2006), Ehrenberg and Smith (2000), Carneiro (2012), Novaes (2014), supplemented by Laws and Decrees. Participating in this study, 34 Deaf people who are embedded in the labor market in systematic ways and employers, who through the requirements of the percentage of the quota law. The instruments used for data collection were questionnaires with open and closed questions applied to the deaf and the employers of the companies/institutions in several localities of the municipality under study. It was concluded that the presence of the Deaf in the labor market in this municipality is a reality, however, it is perceived that the employers' bodies are not always attentive to the compliments of municipal, state and federal laws, leaving the Surda community helpless, without support information. It is hoped that this research may contribute to clarification for society in general, specifically with the Surda community and its insertion in the labor market, since they are human persons, citizens with rights to insert and contribute to the development and sustainability of the country.ptPessoa surdaImperatriz-MaranhãoInserção social
