The study is conducted within the research line “Economic Development and Constitutional Principles of the Economic Order”. Its objective is to examine the evolution and the regulatory challenges of the online sports betting market in Brazil in light of Constitutional Economic Law, highlighting the importance of consumer protection and the need to reconcile the growth of this industry with constitutional principles such as free enterprise, human dignity, social justice, and consumer defense. It examines how the Brazilian regulatory framework for online fixed-odds sports betting addresses the challenges of protecting bettors, in accordance with the constitutional principles that govern the economic order. It investigates the historical development of betting in the country, underscoring how this sector has become economically significant. The primary regulations on the subject are described. Finally, it explores problem gambling, the exposure of children and adolescents, and over-indebtedness—some of the socioeconomic impacts associated with this activity—together with potential solutions to mitigate or eliminate them. The adopted hypothesis is that, although the regulation of the sports betting market has progressed in recent years, it still contains gaps that weaken consumer protection and hinder the effectiveness of constitutional economic principles. In conclusion, the study finds that the regulatory framework requires structural improvements and the adoption of intersectoral strategies for oversight, prevention, and education. To develop this study, the deductive method was employed, starting with bibliographic and documentary research, including journalistic excerpts, and approaching the topic from an interdisciplinary perspective encompassing legal, social, historical, and economic viewpoints.ptDireito Constitucional EconômicoBrasilImpactos SocioecônomicosApostas esportivas
